Motorway Pile Up Problem

emergency

This evening Daughter had a very lucky escape while driving down the M5.  Right before her eyes, within a split second, a 9-car crunch happened.  Fortunately, there was space for her to pull into the outside lane before performing an emergency stop.  The four cars in front were concertinaed into each other, two hit the central reservation, one shot off up the embankment and various others collided.  Daughter called the Police and was twice cut off.  She then rang me […] Read more »

Is Gratitude Your Attitude?

grateful

This morning I caught myself engaging in a little ‘mental moaning’. I was in the shower but not my warm, welcoming womb-like cubicle where I seem to do my best thinking but rather the over-the-bath version with plastic shower curtain.  Why?  The cubicle’s sprung a leak – again – and there’s a notice in there saying ‘under repair’. Husband in ‘inaction’ and I realise this could be a protracted affair.  It was last time. Under the best that the water […] Read more »

Extremes Of Pleasure And Pain In Just One Week

TESSbest seller

Wow, what a week it’s been!  Our collaborative book, The Expert Success Solution launched on Tuesday and debuted as the #1 Amazon best seller in Canada and Amazon #2 in America.   It was a dream-like scenario as we watched  Steven Covey, Tim Ferriss and Napoleon Hill move aside to let us through, with Just Malcolm Gladwell’s ‘Outliers’ remaining in the #1 spot for now.   Being the only contributor from the UK, I was up all night as we watched […] Read more »

The Carnival Is Over

Carnival

‘The Carnival Is Over’ was a 60s song by The Seekers and told a romantic story of  short-lived but life-changing romance.  Our carnival is over because of murder at the Carnival, which sounds more like an Agatha Christie title, doesn’t it?  Sadly, Gloucester Carnival really is over, cancelled because of the violent and purposeless murder of a vulnerable 50-year-old man. The Carnival runs for two weeks every Summer and this year, like every other, was due to climax with a […] Read more »

An ‘Accidental’ Accident?

american-heros-ftr

On March 28, 2012, as Brad Ray, daughter Gabby (18) and son Austyn (16) drove home from the courthouse in Ohio even the bright sunshine couldn’t lighten their mood.  They’d just heard the judge order Austyn to perform 16 hours’ of community service for punching a classmate.  The sentence could have been worse, but this was just another reminder of their troubles. Brad (37), and his wife, Jaime (36), had recently been released from prison after serving several years for […] Read more »

Clive’s Arrived

Alfie Close Up

Clive’s arrived but in the words of that old song, “Will he stay or will he go now . . .”, can’t remember the rest or the singer – surely not another senior moment? So, who’s Clive and how come he’s moved in, huh?  Well, truth is Son and I had a madly impulsive moment on the way home from the garden centre where I’d been shipped for coffee and cake; apparently I needed to get out of the house. […] Read more »

How’s Your Blind Spot?

Fitzgerald

Thoughts tumbled into my mind as I considered the book I’m writing, ‘Life Changing Seconds . . .’, making me  aware of how a little act of kindness or consideration can touch a heart and forever change a life and we’d never know.  How wonderful, the magnificent and hidden hand of the Universe silently at work. Then I thought about how often our self-absorption and personal insecurities may have blinded us to chances for change, little windows of potential light left behind […] Read more »
